BuddyPress Security Check adds a simple math sum to the BuddyPress registration form which the user must answer correctly before registering. This is an effort to reduce the amount of spam user registrations on BuddyPress, and so far it’s been working pretty well.

The link at Wordpress.org for BP Security… (where it says, “You can learn more at the plugin’s website…”) is broken. The word SECURITY is spelled wrong in the link. It says (SERCURITY).

Thanks, I’ve fixed this up now.

I have this installed but I have received 83 spam requests in the last few hours!!!! help!

It was effective for quite a long time, but the bots are now able to handle this one. Time to change it up.

I am having the same problems as Frank Scotello – used to be an effective plugin but now I am being invaded again.

Does it work correctly if you downgrade to version 1.0.1?
No I was getting bots before I upgraded. And also not sure how to downgrade back down.

Agreed–have been getting a steady stream of bots for the last week or so. checked the registration page and the math equation is still appearing.

Spammers have nobbled it 🙁

Is their an alternative to this plugin that works?

BuddyPress Security Check version 1.2.0 is out, and includes a fix which will (hopefully) stop those bots from completing the security check. This kind of thing is hard to test, so I would really appreciate it if people could test it and let me know if it works.

After I enter the answer to the math problem a red message comes up that says “sorry please answer the question again”. I would hope I’m not getting 1+1 wrong lol. Please assist if anyone can. Thanks!

Sorry for not getting back to you for so long. I’ve just released version BuddyPress Security Check 1.3.0 which should resolve this problem. If you could please test it out and let me know if things are working, that would be great.

This plug in was preventing Spam Bot registrations 100% of the time until just this past week. Now we are experiencing Spam Bot registrations again. Can the plugin be updated? Do I need to switch up something I’m doing? Thanks for your feedback.

It looks like the bots have found a way to bypass the security check. Fixing this would involve coming up with a completely new solution and rewriting the plugin.
At this point, I’m not prepared to do that, so I recommend you switch to a different plugin. BuddyPress Captcha seems like a good alternative.

After deleting the plugin, I still have the math security check on my login form. Can you fix this, please?

If you’re using a page caching plugin, try clearing the caches. Otherwise, it could be an issue with one of your other plugins – try disabling them and see if that solves the problem.
Thanks, it was a cache “problem”. Problem solved.
