How to hide the Stats smiley face

If you use the Stats plugin or the stats module of the Jetpack plugin, then you probably know how it generates a smily face icon in the footer of your site. It looks something like this: 

While we all like smileys, and it has never hurt anyone, having an element in the footer of your site can mess up your theme’s layout or styling.

There are lots of dirty hacks around, like using CSS to hide the element or setting its height and width to zero . There’s even a plugin that will do it for you.

However, these workarounds are no longer needed. With newer versions of the Jetpack plugin comes a setting to disable the smiley face, but maintain stats.

To do this, login to your WordPress administration dashboard and visit the Jetpack menu.

Click on the Configure button under the Stats heading (highlighted above). You will be taken to the below screen:

To turn off the smiley face, check the Hide the stats smiley face image  box (highlighted in the above screenshot), and click on the Save configuration button at the bottom of the page.
